The Gerda III was built in 1928 for the Danish Lighthouse and Buoy Service. It looks like a common workboat, but in October 1943, when the arrest and deportation order of Danish Jews began, this lighthouse tender boat became a part of the Danish Rescue overnight, smuggling 300 Jewish refugees, along with 300 resistance fighters, allied soldiers, and others, to Sweden in the hold of the boat.
