I was lucky enough to get to work with Steve Cropper on a few occasions. He was truly one of the greats. He played the guitar with many of the singers that changed my life. Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Sam and Dave…just to name a few. It was such an honour to work with him, and he will be sorely missed. R.I.P Steve, you changed music for the better. | Jimmy Barnes

Steven Lee Cropper (October 21, 1941 – December 3, 2025), widely known as “The Colonel,” was an American guitarist, songwriter, and producer. As the guitarist for the Stax Records house band Booker T. & the M.G.’s, he helped shape the sound of artists like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Carla and Rufus Thomas, and Johnnie Taylor, often producing their sessions as well.
